EXPLORE THE OPEN SPACES OF NEWPORT BEACH
Explore the Open Spaces of Newport Beach
Newport Beach’s main attraction is the pristine open space that surrounds it, including such natural gems as the Upper Newport Bay, Crystal Cove and Buck Gully. Each of these landscapes was protected and transferred to public ownership through our close collaboration with city and county officials and community groups, as part of our commitment to permanently preserve 60% of our Irvine Ranch property.
But as is also true with our residential, retail and office properties, we never stop being careful stewards of the lands we’ve helped preserve. We provided $50 million to establish the Irvine Ranch Conservancy, which manages much of the land we’ve preserved and promotes public access opportunities.
Start Exploring
Across this open space, there’s so much to explore: tidepool walks, guided hikes, kayaking on the Bay, children’s educational programs and more.
Crystal Cove State Park
Crystal Cove State Park is one of the stunning landscapes preserved by Irvine Company, known for its 3.2 miles of picturesque sandy beaches and 2,400 acres of backcountry wilderness. Experience its natural beauty while stand-up paddle boarding, wading through tidepools, snorkeling in the preserved kelp forest or hiking scenic trails. Visit the Crystal Cove State Park website for maps and more information.
Upper Newport Bay
A tranquil setting with bluffs surrounding the water, Upper Newport Bay is one of the most pristine (and one of only a few remaining) estuaries in Southern California. Meander trails on your own, book a guided kayaking tour or discover educational opportunities for adults and children alike.
Buck Gully
Join a guided walk exploring the spectacular bridges and trails throughout Buck Gully. You’ll observe wildlife, native plants and streams that run through this natural coastal canyon. Register in advance here.
